What better way to celebrate a birthday than with a special cast-on? On September 4, I’ll be starting the Cygnus Shawl by Savory Knitting—a project I’ve been looking forward to for a while.
I’m taking a relaxed approach to this knit: no deadline, no strict schedule and no pressure to keep up. I’ll work on it whenever I’m in the mood, enjoying the colors as they unfold and letting the shawl grow at its own pace throughout the fall.
The Yarn
For my Cygnus, I’m pairing two yarns that I’m really excited to see come together:
● Spincycle Yarns Dyed in the Wool in Tender Thoughts
● Newburgh Yarn Co. Corriedale Sport in Dramatic Effect
I love the idea of letting the changing colors of Tender Thoughts play against Dramatic Effect as the shawl grows. I think the combination is going to make this one of those projects where I’m constantly wanting to knit just one more row to see what the colors do next.
I’ll officially cast on September 4—my birthday!
Want to Join Me?
If the Cygnus Shawl has been sitting in your Ravelry favorites or you’ve been looking for an excuse to cast one on, come knit it with me!
You can start with me on September 4 or jump in whenever you’d like. Choose the colors you love, use yarn from your stash or treat yourself to something new. There’s no deadline and no required pace.
This is a very relaxed knit-along: cast on, knit when you can and enjoy watching your shawl come together.
Purchase the Cygnus Shawl Pattern on Ravelry
I’ll be sharing my progress as I go, and if you decide to join me, share yours too using:
#BirthdayCygnusKAL and tagging me @sweetwatersticher on instagram
I would love to see everyone’s yarn choices, color combinations, progress photos and, eventually, all of our finished shawls.
Here’s to a new year, a new project and a birthday cast-on!
Happy knitting!
